Natural Childbirth Education Videos

Updated on May 30th, 2021 // by Katie Griffin

There’s a lot of hard work that goes into preparing for a natural birth.  Natural childbirth education videos are a convenient yet powerful way to learn the tools you need to approach birth with confidence.  Are you ready to start preparing?  Well, just sit down in a comfy chair and press play!

Natural Childbirth Education Video – Deep Relaxation

The first skill you’ll want to learn in preparation for a natural childbirth is the ability to relax deeply.  This may sound counterintuitive.  But when a strong contraction comes in labor, the very best thing you can do to promote labor progress is to relax your muscles.  And I mean ALL of your muscles.  Let the muscles of your face, arms, stomach, legs, and toes melt into the surface you’re resting on.

How Can You Relax While Hurting?

Does that sound like a pretty impossible task to attempt during a painful contraction?  Well, it’s time to start practicing!  You’ll be a pro at it in a couple of months!  This “White Light Imagery” guided imagery experience is an excerpt from the Class #1 of the KOPA® PREPARED online childbirth course.

With time, you’ll develop a solid foundation in the skill of deep relaxation.  You can then begin to layer on a variety of other natural pain-coping tools.  These include patterned breathing techniques, positions that promote comfort and labor progress, and pressure techniques, to name a few.

When you start to experience uncomfortable contractions in labor, you’ll begin using your tools in an orderly succession of “least distracting” to “most distracting.”  You’ll spend hours learning all about this in your online childbirth class.  In this brief video, you’ll get a feel for the wide variety of tools that you can practice now during pregnancy to help you prepare for labor.

Natural Childbirth Education Video – Hospital Interventions

Now that you’ve prepared your mind and body for the work of labor, it’s time to learn all you can about the medical aspect of giving birth.  Of course, you don’t need to know the nitty-gritty details.  But it’s important to be well informed about at least the basic interventions that you may be offered in the hospital.  Your childbirth class will help you understand your options for medicinal pain relief, like narcotics and epidurals.  You’ll also learn about labor inductions, cesarean birth, IVs, etc.

Pregnancy is also the ideal time to nurture a positive relationship with your healthcare provider.  Follow the list of “Healthcare Provider Talk Points” included after each class in your Kopa Birth online course manual.  They offer lists of simple questions that will help you engage with your doctor or midwife.  It will also help him/her understand your plans for a natural birth.

The video you’re about to watch is an excerpt from Class #6 of the KOPA® PREPARED online birthing course.  Many first-time moms are offered the intervention of labor induction.  Take a few minutes to learn about cervical ripeness and how it influences your chances for a successful labor induction.

(Is it possible to have a natural birth with a labor induction? Yes! Read about one mom’s experience with an induction without epidural.)
